Merry Christmas from the Purls

December 14th, 2011

We had our last official Salem Purls meeting on Dec. 12, 2011. We shared some delicious goodies and enjoyed good conversation while we knitted together. We also had an ornament gift exchange which was quite fun. From all the Purls, we wish you a Merry Christmas!

We meet again on January 9, 2012 when we will watch the movie, “Tilly”, together. This will fit in with our charity knitting for the year. After that we will get back to our book discussion on “So Long, Insecurity” by Beth Moore.

Eddie and I had a great little road trip to Massachusetts where we celebrated Thanksgiving with my sister and her family. Here is a picture of my “great” niece, Erin, wearing her birthday sweater. It’s the Eyelet and Chevron Cardigans by Sirdar. It was a lot of knitting but the results were worth it. I couldn’t get Erin to take it off. It’s a little big as you can see by the length of the sleeves so I think she can get a lot of wear out of it. It was a delight to see this sweater on her!

Fall 2011 - Purls Update

November 19th, 2011

We’ve all been so busy with our own personal projects this fall. Our focus for this “Purl Year” will be to support a wonderful ministry called, “Rachel’s Vineyard”.  This group offers retreats for healing after abortion. A few weeks back Linda Monroe came and spoke to our little group about Rachel’s Vineyard and told of us their need for prayer shawls for all the women (and men) who attend these retreats. We decided as a group that this is something we would like to support. As expected, the super knitters in the group got right on it and three shawls have been completed already. Here are some pics of the shawls and other items knitted this fall. I look forward to a very rewarding year of knitting.

Group Effort!

October 23rd, 2011

Over this past year we Purls have been working on an afghan together using the instructions from Warm Up America. In late summer we decided we would donate the completed afghan to the Jericho Road Auction which was held on Friday night, October 21, 2011. I am happy to say the afghan was SOLD and we raised $80 for Jericho Road. While this was a group effort, a special thank you goes to Linda who crocheted all the 7 x 9 inch pieces together. Here are photos of the afghan and a photo of me and Linda together at the auction. Congratulations to the Purls on a job well done ! !

Debbie did it again - she made another beautiful shawl. This one is called “The Eiffel Tower” Shawl and is outstanding. Here she is posing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris France! How cool is that?  Great picture, Debbie, and great shawl!

At our last Purl’s meeting Heather was working on this beautiful shawl. She plans to crochet a boarder around it and then block it in time for the cruise vacation she and her husband will be going on this month. We look forward to seeing the finished product and to hearing about the trip. Nice work, Heather!

x’s and o’s

I wanted to make a sweater with cables. When I finally found a pattern I liked I didn’t like the cables. Debbie suggested I do the x’s and o’s and it turned out great. I liked it so much I made the sweater twice.

The sweater came from Knit Simple Magazine, Holiday 2010.

The cable pattern can be found HERE.

Summer is so busy that our group hasn’t met very often. At our last meeting Sarah and Emily joined us. Here they are showing off their handy work! Good job, girls. (Notice the lovely headband made by Debbie.)

Our group will start to meet regularly soon and will be reading a Beth Moore book together called, So Long Insecurity. I think it will be a great year.

In my web searching for anything that has to do with knitting I came across this cartoon and am posting it in honor of my DD - this is for you Irene!

This morning we had a Purl’s field trip to the annual Tent Sale at Wool Tyme here in Ottawa. We had fun shopping and browsing together. There’s nothing like spending time in a yarn shop with good friends. I think we are all ready to start meeting  regularly again.

A special thank you to all the Purletts for my birthday surprise. Heather - the cake was amazing!
